Annual Business Meeting and Elections PDF Print E-mail
News - 2004 Archive
Hello again everyone- On Saturday, March 20, the first day of spring, your Washington State C.O.P.S. chapter held its' annual Business Meeting and Elections in Sumner, Washington. The day was sunny and bright, the room beautifully decorated, and the food extraordinary. The Calvary Community Church hosted the event which was opened with bagpiper Sgt. Brian Johnson. The Mayor of Sumner, Barbara Skinner greeted everyone after which an incredibly talented trio called "Jazzabelle" sang and played music while we ate a terrific breakfast. This was not a continental breakfast folks. This was mountains of bacon and eggs, fruit, rolls, bagels, juices, free latte's or if you preferred regular coffee or decaf. The tables were decorated with huge spring centerpieces, tons of daffodils, free ground coffee and 20th anniversary coffee mugs. When you finished eating you could decide what you wanted to bid on for the special, surprise auction with all items donated by merchants from the City of Sumner. Items included a John Deere bicycle with training wheels and two beautiful stained free-standing mirrors among other awesome items. When the meeting started, the lucky children that attended got to leave to meet two K-9 police dogs, get ID cards made up, ride the John Deere "tractors", play foosball, and just generally have a ball. Many of the children's "sitters" were the amazing men and women of the Sumner Police Department who seemed to enjoy hanging out with the kids as much as the kids enjoyed their day. Elections were held and Barbara Brown was elected your V.P., Rhea Marshall was elected your Secretary and Brenda Donner, your Treasurer. Thank you to all who voted for me as your President. There were many announcements and the video "Overcoming Adversity" by Charlie Plumb was shown. We discussed fundraising at the grassroots level and four women were recognized for their tremendous weight-loss efforts. Congratulations Ladies! Gals, you have put me to shame - you make it look so effortless but I know differently. You all look healthy and happy. Thank you to all who worked, donated, laughed, prayed and just generally helped in some way. Thank you especially to Alberta Heagle-Lavoy, our very special angel and Events Coordinator who outdid herself once again, all at no cost to our chapter. She continually amazes us with her energy, love, and smiles. Hope to see you all soon! Love, Sheri Brown Smith
