Wednesday, 05/07/03, was the 9th Annual Washington State Peace Officers’ Ceremony in Seattle. In addition to the ceremony, there was a dedication and viewing of the new Seattle Police Memorial Wall inside headquarters at 610 – 5th Avenue. In attendance were members of the Brown, Cochran, LaVey, and Underwood families. The pleasant weather also brought out many constituents of the downtown community, who paused respectfully and picked up red, white, and blue ribbons to wear.
The Brown family honored Deputy Mark William Brown, King County Sheriff's Department, EOW 02/27/99. The Cochran family was there in tribute to Deputy Sheriff Richard S Cochran II, King County Sheriff's Department, EOW 05/22/91. The parents of Sergeant Stacy Edward Levay, USAF Security Police, US (Guam), EOW 01/01/92, honored his memory by their presence, and the Underwood family paid credit to Master Police Officer Steven J. Underwood, Des Moines Police Department, EOW 03/07/01.
The subdued memorial wall inside headquarters is inscribed with names of lost Seattle Police Officers. It’s on the northeast corner as you enter the building from 5th Avenue.
